Ready-To-Go Foods Cook, Fork and Gavel Kitchen

Description

The Ready-To-Go food cook is responsible for preparing and packaging cold sandwiches, cold salads and reheatable entrees that will be served at all locations. Primarily works with vegetables and starches, cheeses, fruits, and cooked meats. Responsible for communicating with kitchen managers to determine appropriate production levels based on season and popularity of certain items. Works independently with a medium level of creativity to determine an appropriate production menu by performing the following duties. Considers seasonality and includes a commitment to including locally sourced product whenever possible. 


Duties and Responsibilities​ include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  1. Determines production menu to ensure a variety of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options.*
  2. Prepares salads, sandwiches, and heat-and-eat entrees for grab and go cases.*
  3. Packages, labels, and stores product properly for delivery.*
  4. Rotates, stores, and labels foods properly.*
  5. Seasons and prepares food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience.*
  6. Communicates with kitchen managers and cafe managers for customer feedback about how products sell, which are essential versus occasional specials versus non-sellers.*
  7. Keeps informed of academic schedule changes that influence the quantities of foods sold.*
  8. Takes initiative to discuss trends and product options with chefs, managers, and owners.*
  9. Offers assistance to kitchen crew when time permits.*
  10. Keeps work space clean and helps keep kitchen clean and organized.*
  11. Maintains a proficiency with computers to be able to receive and respond to job related communications as well as label making.*
  12. Removes trash, recyclables, and compostable materials to appropriate areas.
  13. Assists dishwasher during busy times and covers for dishwasher when understaffed.
  14. Puts away dishes and helps maintain dish area.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 


Computer Skills: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software and internet software. 


Education/Experience: 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 


Specialized Training: 

Two years professional cooking experience or equivalent 


Certificates and Licenses: 

ServSafe certification a plus but not required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), work near moving mechanical parts, extreme heat (non-weather), sharps/knives, sticky, slippery dishes and pots, and wet floors, garbage and compost hauling. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and vibration. 


The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
